Final SmartBoard Lesson-3.notebook
Higher Order Thinking Questions:
- Can you create a word problem?
- Can you tell the difference between word problems and stories for entertainment(author's purpose)?
- What would happen if you changed the wording of the problems? (Example: Johnny has 8 apples and gave 3 to Sally. How many does Johnny have? --> Sally has 4 apples and Johnny gave her 3. How many does Sally have now?)
- Can you create a NEW way to solve a word problem?
- Compare and contrast addition word problems and subtraction word problems.
Hypothetical Answers:
- Mary has 3 toys to play with. For her birthday, her grandma gives her 5 more. How many toys does she now have altogether?
- The author's purpose for word problems is to solve a math problem. Stories for entertainment don't have a problem to solve.
- The wording changed subtraction into addition.
- Count on fingers or in head. Visualize the scenario.
