Higher Order Thinking Questions:
- Write two problems using the bees and the hive.
- What would happen if bees came out of the hive instead of going in? What problems could you write?
- Imagine 15 bees could fit inside the hive. Create a word problem telling how 15 bees get inside using at least two steps.
- Write the steps, in order, you took to solve the problems. What did your answer represent?
- Create an idea for another game we could play with world problems.
Hypothetical Answers
- There are 10 bees and 3 went inside. How many did not go inside?; There are 7 bees and 1 went inside. How many did not go inside?
- 10 bees are in the hive and 7 left. How many are still in the hive?
- There are 15 bees. 7 go inside first. How many are left? Then, 5 more bees go inside. How many are left outside? Finally, 3 bees go inside. How many are left outside?
- Count bees outside, subtract from total bees, answer is number of bees inside hive.
- There will be varied answers!
